Numerical modeling constrained by environmental isotopes for sustainable development of partially renewable aquifers in desert area

چکیده
Abstract Sustainable groundwater resources are a critical issue for national development in developing countries like Egypt, which is characterized by semi-arid to arid climate and low per capita share of fresh water as result progressive population increase especially after the construction Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. It mandatory adopt modify methods suitable preserving efficient use available resources. The Eocene carbonate aquifer desert area under study (West El-Minia, Mid-Upper Egypt) partially renewable; its sustainable irrigation explored this work. (recharge–withdraw–exploit) regimes have been optimized keeping well abstraction below fraction renewable recharge maximizing exploit selecting -consuming crops high economic value. A novel approach introduced work integrating isotope hydrology techniques with numerical modeling; environmental isotopes ( 18 O D) contents 62 samples used determine map contribution recent (from 10 95%) constrain acceptable reduction hydraulic head allowed an withdraw usage regime. Different scenarios were proposed changing (rate pumping, number wells, wells distribution irrigated crops) simulating behavior achieve yield goals best plan management area. Graphical abstract

Environmental problems indicator under environmental modeling toward sustainable development
This research aims to apply a model to the study and analysis of environmental and natural resource costs created in supply chains of goods and services produced in Thailand, and propose indicators for environmental problem management, caused by goods and services production, based on concepts of sustainable production and consumer behavior. The research showed that the highest environmental co...
متن کاملThe nexus of renewable energy - sustainable development - environmental quality in Iran: Bayesian VAR approach
The use of renewable energy reduces environmental pollution and leads to achievement of sustainable development. The current study investigates the dynamic interrelationship between sustainable development, renewable and non-renewable energies and environment nexus by applying Bayesian vector autoregression (BVAR) and impulse response functions in Iran with an annual data frequency for the time...

متن کاملRenewable Energy Strategies for Sustainable Development
This paper discusses the perspective of renewable energy (wind, solar, wave and biomass) in the making of strategies for a sustainable development. Such strategies typically involve three major technological changes: energy savings on the demand side, efficiency improvements in the energy production, and replacement of fossil fuels by various sources of renewable energy. Consequently, large-sca...
